I agree with the future B-cam part. If Blackmagic will release a decent successor at NAB 2013 and/or 2014, I am sure the first BMCC will be a great compliment for that. I just wish BMD would have come up with an actual name for this camera... like the Blackmagic One, or something else.
I predict that next year we will already at least hear about a S35 sized Blackmagic camera 4K RAW at 60fps with more modularity, like handgrip with function buttons and battery. And it will be less than 8.000, maybe even less than 7.000. But until then, this one will be great.
Didn't find the "pick-me-up" site funny at all, in fact I'll never be going to that site EVER again. I feel fine about my pre-order, and will be working around the issues with the camera once I get it.
The only issue I have with purchasing the 1st generation Blackmagic Cam is that I recently got burned buying the Hyperdeck Shuttle. I bought the 1st generation HS and just a short time later they released a 2nd generation model which I was not too happy about. However the current Cinema camera is just too good to pass up.
Thanks for reading! Sorry, if that seemed harsh... I was just joking. Probably need to edit that a bit better. I pre-ordered the BlackMagic and I'm super excited about it. But there are some naysayers out there... so I was just thinking of ways to not let them get to me.
I loved it... thought it was pretty funny. I especially liked the crack about the lights in the Aztek, HA! What a hideous mess that thing was...
Good Show!
Nice... but I hope no-one seriously needs a "pick-me-up" to feel good about their pre-order. The specs and the footage themselves leave me with an ungodly desire to have this camera in my hands... immediately. It's as if you won a $1000 lottery from a $10 ticket ... but are now questioning the original purchase, needing some sort of validation or motivation to claim your prize haha.
Everyone in the camera / filmmaking community is scoring to such a degree with this camera that the price seems to invalidate any potential complaints outright (maybe a bit excessive, but that's how I feel atm). I for one am not expecting a perfect camera, but this is something I've been waiting for.
Eh, Whatever. A super 35mm sensor would be nice for the field of view and some added ease for selective focus when I want it. However, I am sick of looking at 7D and 5D footage that is all shot at F2 just because they don't want to light the scene. Boring and bad lighting is still boring and bad lighting, even if you can get an exposure with the aperture wide open.
Now getting rid of 4:2:0 without needing a recorder just to get 4:2:2 sounds interesting to me. 4:2:0 falls apart in Resolve on me all the time.
A deep depth of field requires more interesting ways to separate the subject from the background, like chiaroscuro.

Definitely looking forward to that. But meanwhile, we stiill have a release that's a big bang for the buck with version 1. Anything we produce till the release of the 4K cam would have already paid for the camera multiple times over :-)
ok, dumb question, but for pre-order can i assume you have to pre-pay entirely?
I think it depends on the dealer. Some want a small non-refundable deposit ($300ish), some, like BHPhoto make you process a $3,000 purchase, but then they won't actually process it until it ships.
