  • Go Pro LUT - Protune RAW WB to BMDfilm

Good day / night to you all,

I am currently in the process of developing an input lut for the GoPro Hero 3 and + so that it can be easily graded along side BMD FILM footage, specifically so that the same LUT's can be applied to get a similar result. I have spent a few days working on this so far and it is not quite ready for public release yet, but at some point soon I would like to be able to try out a beta version of it with some users on here, specifically those with both:

    BMCC / BMPCC

    and

    GoPro Hero3 or 3+

Here is a very quick early test shot showing where I am up to so far,

This is with one of Captain Hook's BMD LUT's applied.

For the BMCC the node chain is:

    WB Correction > CH LUT

for the Go Pro it is:

WB Correction > GP Input LUT > CH Lut

No other tweaks were required to match the footage.

The exposure variation in the 2nd image is down to how the GoPro applies auto gain during the filming - something a lut cannot fix.

But the reason I started this post is to see how many people meet the requirements and are interested in helping me to test the lut when it is ready?

It already seems very nice. Does there happen to be a lut that gets Cinestyle to the same level as BMD film?

I have an older Gopro 2 with the Protune update. I'd like to test it to see if it could help on that camera as well

Thanks for the responses fella's - I am working solid on it today so that I should soon have a beta version ready to share - made quite a bit of progress already today, so fingers crossed I should be able to share something within the next 24 hours.

Spent all day yesterday working on it, manually calibrating it shade by shade using my x-rite charts, still needs a bit more work today.

I want this to the ready as soon as possible to it does have my full attention at the moment.

Any news on this Tom? I'm eagerly waiting what you come up with. Just went out the other day again and shot some new aerial footage with my drone. Would live to give your gopro LUT a try!
