  • Blackmagic Pocket and Zeiss Planar S16mm (Test)

    http://vimeo.com/84335969

I had the chance of putting my hands on a case of Zeiss Planar T1.2 S16mm, so I decided to test them out in the workshop of my good friends of CRD Motorcycles.
The Planar 16mm are probably the best lenses you can use with the Blackmagic Pocket, cause its sensor is almost the same size of S16mm.
The lenses used in this clip were 9.5mm, 12mm, 16mm, 25mm and 50mm. All of them T1.2, but used mostly at T2.8 or T4.
Working with Cinema lenses is a real pleasure, long and smooth focus ring, de-clicked aperture ring, super fast aperture, solid PL mount, etc.
The small sensor of the pocket could look like a handicap for many people, but because its size, 16mm lenses are the perfect match, making the BM Pocket even more interesting.
Can`t wait to go out and shoot real stuff!

Please let me know what you think.

Very clean sharp lenses. Look good on the pocket. Me like!

Personally I think the S16 format is under appreciated these days.

it might sound wierd but, s16 lens and a smaller sensored camera than s35 has a different taste... i love my mk1 16mm superspeeds with my BMCC 2.5K.... They work very nicely. The 12mm makes a little vignette on the corners but with just 4% blow up or a smaller mask (2.35) i clean it out.... The old lens have a nice organic feel. But that's just me.

You can potentially get rid of the vignette by using the new Olympus MC-14 1.4x teleconverter: http://bmcuser.com/showthread.php?12...-Teleconverter

I'm pretty sure all of the Zeiss S16 Super Speeds won't work with the MC-14, as the rear elements extend too far past the mounts. They would physically hit the teleconverter.
