  • Blackmagic Showcase

I thought it might be good to collect all the solidly produced videos that showcase the Blackmagic Cinema Camera into a single thread. It's easy to lose sight of just what this camera is capable of in the right hands.

Jon Carr's A Week With The BMC

    John Brawley's Pieces

    John Brawley's Pool Shark

    https://vimeo.com/46460980 (not embeddable)

    John Brawley's Puberty Blues Footage

    hangman's Island Life

hangman's A Night In Nine Elms

    Philip Bloom's Dungeness

    Andrew Julian's Trip to Mexico

Andrew Julian's Drive Through Snow Canyon

Filippo Chiesa's Black Magic Cine Camera RAW test

    Philip Bloom's Ponte Tower

Frank Glencairn's Dynamic Range Stress Test

    Frank Glencairn's Join for Victory

    Exact Neutral's 810 7 30 (NYC)

Link me to any BMCC videos you think should go into this list. I'm sure I've missed some!

This, without a shadow of a doubt, definitely my favorite looking footage so far!

What's funny about Filippo's footage is that it's very muted/dark. If you open it in Resolve you can see that he never goes above 60% brightness. Increasing the highlights on some scenes makes them even nicer but takes away the "look" I guess..

Filippo's piece is phenomenal. The homeless guy at 0:22 - the way he licks his lips then stares at that chicken - kills me. In terms of cinematography, beautifully shot.

That's the first thing I noticed when watching it, how dark it was overall, but for some reason after about the 3rd or 4th shot I just forgot about that and got mesmerized.
My favorite shots are the 2 ladies standing in the street toward the beginning, the CU of the red haired girl and the wide shot of them all on the steps, the dynamic range in the steps shot is...... well, yeah.

I guess we all have different tastes but I would say Filipops is the least impressive. I know I'm going against the flow here but I think Blooms piece is one of the most interesting, I think thats why he was upset cause he probably as I do think thought it was pretty nice and couldnt understand the criticism. I also think more can be pulled out of his shots as well with grading. JB's obviously is up there with the best stuff.

I downloaded the file and banged up the brightness in Resolve. There are shoots that look "nicer" imho but it looks a little bit more video imho

Everyone is an egotistical lunatic deep inside. Just depends how long someone has to poke & prod at you before you blow.

                      True.

Especially for creative people. I've heard creating something is a bit like giving birth to a baby and then some looks at it and says what an ugly kid. The natural reaction is to dismiss the criticism when it's often useful to progress. Not easy...

                        Don't forget JB's Puberty Blues:

NOTE: This thread should be a sticky in the footage section. Great idea Nick!

Filippos video suits my taste best. When you push footage to a 100% white it usually starts to look like video.
