A lot of people have expressed that the Tokina 11-16mm will be an ideal wide. My question is how much distortion would a lens like this exhibit?

Would it be more, less with the crop?

If its too much I personally will have to balance widest possible view with lack of distortion. So I'm wondering what all purpose zoom/prime would give a decent enough wide without significant distortion. My initial thoughts at the moment are Canon ef 17-55mm for zoom, sigma 20mm for prime.

The Tokina performs superbly already on DX/APS-C sensors, cropping into the centre of the lens will only improve distortion and clarity.

I think a basic, do-everything, 3-lens kit for the BMC would be something like:

    - Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8
    - Nikon/Canon 17-55mm f/2.8
    - Rokinon 24mm f/1.4 or Sigma 20mm f/1.8 as a fast 'standard' prime
