Probably a MoCo rig for high resolution plates. Think they're using that rig on talent?

Oh definitely not. We all know Roger is an Alexa guy.

Even for a special-purpose camera, I'm just curious why they'd choose compressed 8-bit 4K over much, much better options these days.

I asked about it on the Deakins forum and all I got was a "Didn't happen" from James (Deakin's wife)... So who knows.

It looks like MoCo. I'd assume they were shooting stills, lots of them.

The shot happens at 2:28, and the very next shot appears to be from the same camera. I dunno if that tells you anything else, but it definitely looks like miniatures, whatever it was.

Roger answered in his forum that it is for reference purposes.

"The camera you see in that image is shooting for reference only.

On 'Skyfall' we had some images of a Japanese island which were shot by a location scout on a D5 or a D7, I can't remember exactly. To save money we never actually went to that location but we used the stills which were animated by our effects team." - RD

defiantly a mo-cap rig, you can see all the stepper motors.
If they did multiple passes / exposures then they could get a high dynamic range image out of it.
They have a cord going into the cam, probably for shutter/iris control
I would imagine the whole rig would be immeasurably cheaper for a camera that size.
    "Senior Member"???... Really???...
Not to be taken seriously...by anyone.....

Here's a short film (first of three) directed by Luke Scott (Ridley's son) that bridges the gap between the original (2019) and the upcoming movie (2049).
