  • Best Short Films Thread

Hey guys! post your favorite short films here.
also open to discussion about them!!

I'll be updating as I find more I love, but here are a few of my favorites:

    (My all time favorite) :
"How many things we held yesterday as articles of faith which today we tell as fables."
War, fate, and a broken walkman transcend space and time in this sci-fi love story.
Starring Carla Gugino and directed by Greg Williams, Tell-Tale is a erotic film noir thriller short.
In a world first several shots in this film were made on the Epic Camera (prototype) back in January 2010.
goofy little short, fun characters pull you in
Gripped by the fear of possible repercussions and tortured by the guilt of his violent actions, Taylor seeks to hide his sins in hopes that they will go unnoticed and become no more than a dirty little secret... However, his plan quickly falls apart when he begins to see menacing visions and the line between reality and paranoia becomes blurred...Is it all in his head or can the dead truly take revenge?
    (WARNING:this will make you cry.)
Oden's struggle with cancer finally came to an end.
May he rest in peace and his memory be eternal.
A documentary about a journey to "The Edge of the Earth". The Gates of the Arctic National Park is the northernmost national park in the U.S. (the entirety of the park lies north of the Arctic Circle). There are no established roads, trails, visitor facilities, or campgrounds in the park.
Following the Alatna River you will see an amazing place people rarely see, including the amazing Arrigetch Peaks.
"For the next two weeks you must survive using the knowledge, skills and gear you bring with you. You will walk or float through intact ecosystems where people have lived with the land for thousands of years. You will experience solitude, self reliance and nature on its own terms. Are you prepared?"
Filmed using Solar Power for Two Weeks = 10,000 combined shutter releases and video clips. Below is the link to how I accomplished this and stored all the pictures and video files.
Room 8 is one of five films based on the same script from Bombay Sapphire Imagination Series 2012.
The Bombay Sapphire Imagination Series is about sparking your imagination. We asked Oscar winning writer Geoffrey Fletcher, to write a short script with no genre and direction. Five winning film entries were picked, produced and premiered at Tribeca Film Festival 2013.

I've been meaning to start a thread on this. I'd like to see this thread stay. But not just for best short films, maybe anything that people see and want to share, that had an impact, whether music video, image or short film. Here's a few of mine for now:

10 Minutes Ahmed Imamovic is one of the best shorts of recent years. A very astute and contemplative film, with a great idea:

The Black Hole is what a great little short should be—good concept, short and sweet.

The Gift is a great Sci-Fi short, that was entered for the Philips competition.

So Alive In Joburg is now a classic short, that led on to become District 9

Two Cars, One Night is probably one of my favourite short films of all time. Superbly done in every way.

Lynne Ramsey enter here...beautifully shot and a very well regarded film. I would post all of her shorts as they are all exceptional But Gasman is a good start.

Lowlands This is technically a music video but I fell in love with it. Its perfect. Brilliantly done.

Meshes of the Afternoon Maya Deren has to feature here somewhere

The story of a sign is also one of my all time favourite shorts. This is incredibly simple, yet poignant and beautiful. Unfortunately not a decent quality version around.

Royalty is a good short to watch...well its good short...but it was made as a standalone short that involved the same characters, in the same world, and was successfully used as taster for the feature London to Brighton. It got funded on the strength of the short.

The Third & The Seventh made a whole lot of people double-take when it came out. Alex Roman made it in his spare time. It is a beautiful piece.

Desserts is a great little short that stars Ewan McGregor. Nice concept, simple and perfectly executed.

Wasp is a very well regarded short as well. I'm not really a fan of British realism per se. But its got some punch to it

Ruin is another memorable piece from the last few years. Wes Ball has been in talks to make a feature, whether its still a-go I don't know.

The Silent City is Rauri Robinson's great little sci-fi short. Enough said...

Six Shooter is Martin McDonagh's great short film, that was an Oscar Winner and what lead on to In Bruges. Its a great short.
