  • What are your favorite iPad/iPhone iOS apps for Cinematography??????

As a person totally new to this I think there is a need for a thread that strictly focuses on the new tools offered on iOS platforms.

Not knowing if these apps are useful or not I’ve taken the liberty to post some links that might be useful when confronted with cinematographic choices.

      Interesting navvt.

Do you have any other apps within the periphery of your field that you think are useful?

I forgot to mention the Artemis Director's Viewfinder but that's about it. I use the Kodak app when shooting film mostly and pCAM for DOF related issues. Toland app is expensive compared to the others but I find it very useful for cinematography work, both film and video.

My main work is Doc camera work (mostly direct cinema), and I find that Movie slate helps when shooting Docs with double system with cameras without TC. Directors are suspicious about it when I first tell them to use it but they come to find that it comes handy in post to have some slates shot to sync image and sound when you are run and gunning.

Sun Seeker and Artemis are 2 pre-production apps. They come very handy to pre-visualize shots when doing location scouting.

EDIT: A couple of years ago I've thought to migrate to Sweden. Can you tell me how's the cinema industry in your country? Is there any work to foreign people there? Thanks.

Thank you for your sharing your experiences about these apps naavt.

I am going to check em’ out.

I am totally new to this filed.

Most of the people I have interacted work with music or sound production.

From what I have gathered the traditional Film community have benefited from the influx of some big Hollywood productions that have been produced here.

By observing the business operation of the people that I purchased my Pocket Camera from I presume that there is a great deal of knowledge and competence within the cinematic field.

I think it will be safe to assume that the industry here (at least in the commercial sense) is small compared to the one in the US.

There seem to be a vibrant independent scene here.

On the independent front I am personally a fan of films that deal with the growing part of the Swedish population that have been marginalized and have not been fully integrated into the Swedish social fabric and who’s voices have been ignored.

I am dying to see a movie called Äta, Sova, Dö (Translated it means Eat; Sleep and Die). It deals with a side of Sweden that is not that pretty.

If you have children (and you are not a part of the population that has been ostracized from the rest of the Swedish population like some socially economic underprivileged groups have been) it is probably one of the best if not the best place to raise children in (that is if you don’t believe in corporal punishment as a proper way of raising children).

          Sincerely,

          Useg Diaz-Granados

My favourite all time director is Ingmar Bergman. He was simply a genius and I love every film he has made. When I saw "Låt den rätte komma in" I've thought that his legacy was passed trough contemporary Sweden filmmakers. It is simply the BEST contemporary vampire film to date. Period! Compared to it Twilight saga is a kid's joke from an entertaining industry so it naturally arose my interested in your contemporary industry.

I'm 42 and expecting my first child. He's going to see this world in March for the first time and even if I live in a latin country (Portugal), I can assure you that I'm far far away from the corporal punishment kind of raising

I remember reading somewhere that there's an app for the iPhone which does read color temp but if I'm not mistaken there were also a lot of negative feedback about it.

Naavt congratulations on your soon to be family member and your entry into parenthood!

And I know this also is of topic; but congratulations on your soccer victory against Sweden (it was not even close; instead of 1-0 it should had been more like 4-0).

I share your admiration for Ingmar Bergmans work particularly his dialogs.

Can’t forget to mention Roy Anderson the minimalist perfectionist who I think is a master at undressing the complexities and absurdities of the traditional and contemporary Swedish perspective.

If you have not seen any of his work I highly recommend it.

Not a football fan here but thanks anyway You know… You probably won't believe it but I was hoping Sweden to win. Portuguese people cares much about football and less without real important things and I believe our country could benefit from not being in Brazil.

Presumably because the OP has an iOS device. You are welcome to start a tread about android as well.
