With that line of thinking, Blackmagic could enable CDNG / RAW recording just to external USB media, which both the Pocket 4k and new Ursa Mini Pro G2 can record to. Offering an alternative to anyone who still prefers unprocessed RAW to BRAW while avoiding expensive and polonged litigation with RED.

Maybe in a near future release?

In this Newsshooter article it says that the new Sigma fp will record CDNG to the Video Assist, so I don't see why BM wouldn't be interested if enough people wanted it.

I haven't followed the VA's updates so I never knew it could record RAW unless that will be a future update as well.

It would be cool if the little Micro 4K could finally record RAW to the VA.

I think recording to an external drive would still be considered an internal recording as the camera is only saving the media to the drive not using it to create the recording - Where as an external device like an atomos recorder is doing the grunt work BUT I assume it'd but up to how the patent is worded and if a judge agrees. I'd assumed Red would do their best to word it in their favour as a sort of catch 22 where internal recording means the camera is doing the work.

WOW! I also saw that SSD in red media long long time ago over the forums, but until i look at those videos i never realize they are so overpriced and use lowest quality SSDs inside. SSD side module (actually simple passive adapter) price is also sort of madness.

Jinni.Tech prices are lower that RED but same time they also charge a lot. This kind of PCB adapter costs less than $1 and similar custom made CNC machined enclosure may cost less than $10 if order batch of 500-1000 pcs.

Yes, indeed, but at some point someone will have to draw the line, they can't be allowed to own and veto RAW video recording just because they filed and claimed a wide ranging patent without merit. We're not talking about RedRaw here, but simply the very concept of recording RAW video in camera which shouldn't be patentable at all. I'm aware they tried to mess around with Sony and ARRI in relationto similar 'obvious' patents but got their rears handed to them.

I hope jinnimag keeps putting out more of these videos. Thankyou jinnimag for exposing a Patent trolling red camera companies true agenda.

Part 3 is up and it’s HUGE: I’ll never touch a red camera again, seems billionaires are,as expected, bully’s. Red needs to sell the company so someone can clean house or let Blackmagic take them out of the game completely.

their arrogant fratboy users turned me off from this company long ago. I remember when they felt threatened by Magic Lantern on the 5d3. People didnt want to pay for their inflated day rates because their magical camera want so magical anymore.

The whole patent thing is amazing. A billionaire can apparently game the system by apparently falsifying info to the patent office and then apparently uses that fake info to muscle smaller companies with patent trolling.

Who’s going to buy the krapmodo now!

Looks like apple is questioning reds patent. Yeeehaaaaa go apple go

                        https://www.docketalarm.com/cases/PT...on_Redcom_314/

Quoty4 from Jared land:Apple did not file a lawsuit against Red but rather filed two inter parties re-exam requests with the Patent Office. This is standard operating procedure for patent holders.
We have a fantastic relationship with Apple and as they publicly announced in June RED and APPLE continue to work on incredible things.... this is all just part of the process 
And for the people that want to challenge... it is not the first time someone has challenged the Redcode patents and it won’t be the last... and each time our patents have held fast.

If you're referring to the footage in the intro it's from an event that was posted online.

                                He’s talking about Jannard’s deposition.

I got half way through last night and will finish today. Certainly continues to be an interesting watch.
