  • 4K monitors

    Hey guys,

About to buy a 4k monitor, primarily for editting and a bit color.

Right now I'm looking at the LG 31mu97z, specs seems nice and there's a great thread on reduser about this monitor. But it's also from 2014, are there currently any better solutions? Or should I stick to the LG?

Is that the one for $2000?

Side note: Isn't F'ed up that we can buy a 5K iMac with a 5K DCI P3 (10bit) monitor plus the entire computer for $1800-$2300.

It's about $1399$, seems great for the price! It's 4k dci, 10bit, 99.5 rgb, and factory calibrated.

Timothy, I took your advice and went with the iMac 27" Retina 5K DCI P3 10bit colour. Resolve 12.3 takes advantage of the 10bit P3 capabilities. So far so good while I'm working in a raw 2K/ProRes HD timeline.

You'll love working with the D700's for sure.

Yes, worked with iMac's for a few years now. It's a big step up for sure, grading in resolve never felt so smooth. Really happy!

What about Seetec 4K monitors? Now they have 23.8 inch and 28 inch 4K monitors, and the price are both below $1000. Links of the monitors are as below, maybe it is a reference for you.

Just be aware that there have been problems with the D700s and Resolve. Myself and others have experienced render issues when using noise reduction nodes. We get garbled frames. The issue seems to be lack of cohesion between Apple and AMD on the drivers but there's other explanations floating out there as well. Just make sure to test this thoroughly if you use NR in Resolve.

On paper, the LG 31" DCI 4K LED P3 10bit monitors seem the best option listed in this thread.

To be honest, I'm not really sure. I've been trying to figure out what to buy as well and saw that these two are the latest offerings in semi-pro video work. Hopefully, someone with more knowledge can point us in the right direction.

Wow, like that new BenQ PV3200PT monitor. I now have a 27inch 21:9 LG, it does the job for now. But my next one might be the BenQ, hoping it to drop in price a bit over time. In europe it's now 1400 euro, wich it a little over my budget. I guess if you own a 4.6k BM you might want to look for a 5k monitor.

My friend told me to look into the Philips 40 inch monitor, that might be just a bit to big on my desk tho: https://www.megekko.nl/product/0/306...r=tweakers.net
