  • New Metabones Ultra - So tight some EF lenses not fitting.

Hi - just got our BMPCC 4K earlier this week and today a new Metabones Ultra 0.71x EF-to-MFT speedbooster.

Speedbooster mounted on the camera just fine with a Smallrig cage and their speedbooster support.

When I try to mount a Canon 24-105mm L series lens or a Tokina 11-16 EF mount on the adapter the locking ring just won't turn to lock.

I make sure the adapter is unlocked fully clock-wise. I line up the red dots, place and hold the lens making sure it is flush all the way around and then try to turn the adapter ring counter-clockwise to lock. It won't budge.

Now here's the kicker. I also have a Canon CN-E 18-80mm cinema lens. It mounts just fine although the locking ring is very tight initially, but it locks and works. The camera sees the lens and electronic exposure and tap to focus work just fine.

(The plus is the camera now sees this T4.4 lens as a 2.8 on the wide open end).

So in any case, not sure what is going on with the other lenses. Am I missing something, an adjustment to made? All these lenses mount fine with an inexpensive EF-MFT dumb adapter.

    Thanks for any replies.

Even Canon's own photo lenses are following the specs pretty loosely in my experience. They might do better when making a cine lens.
But since most people will use photo lenses, I'd complain with Metabones.

Is this the BMPCC 4k speed booster that just came out?

You probably need to compare the lenses that fit to the lenses that don’t fit. If you look at the mount on the lens, the three protruding edges might be too long. I had a Tokina 11-20 that extended outward too far. Tokina replaced it and those three protrusions were much smaller. I was under warranty, though.

No, it's the EF-M43 Ultra .071x. I don't believe the new specific one for the BMPCC 4K is shipping yet.
