  • Tribeca winner short

Hi, I've found this forum super informative over the past couple years, and I wanted to share my short film which won a special jury mention at Tribeca and just premiered online at Short of the Week. It was shot on the Production Camera with a bit of BMCC.

    I liked it a lot!

What did you film it with and what were the guidelines to grading? Did you use Filmconvert?

Thanks Alex, appreciate it! It was mostly the Production Camera and a bit of BMCC (EF). Slow mo shot was A7Sii with a speed booster. Yes the grade was resolve and I believe the colorist did use Filmconvert as a starting point. To be honest, because I didn't do the grade I'm not super clear on some of the technical details of the grade, what I know is that we made the decision to do a slight underexposure on the shoot, planning to do a subtle push in post. It's a look we've had success with in the past and was needed with the native 400 iso and our tiny production. Ultimately it did limit how much we could push contrast with out losing too much detail and it was the colorists opinion that the mood of the movie would get too heavy, hence the flatter look.

We have recently finished shooting a new short that we had more budget on -- shot it on the UMP g1 and lit it more heavily with HMIs through windows so it has a more naturally contrasty vibe.

Nice to know. The look is really filmic and natural.

        Congrats!
