That does not bode well for future business. I remember a thread where the hardcore BMD fans were touting the wonders of the UMP, and that it's no different if not better than more expensive cameras. Why on earth don't productions use them?? They are crazy!

    This is why.
I had Ikan do that for me once. One of thier monitors died on me 3 years after the warranty was up, they took my old one and sold me the newer model at cost.

Bulk purchases. Buying one sensor for repair might actually cost more than the camera. I suspect, BMD just orders all the cameras they think they will sell at one time, then sits on stock. Also, you have to think about cost of labor. It might take a lot of money in labor to repair it since its out of warranty. From their end, they think they are doing OP a favor.

Best think to do it find another broken one on ebay, then take the parts off that, and fix it yourself. If nothing else, make a youtube video out of the teardown to help others in the future.

Silence may mean that BM has discreetly come to the party in a goodwill gesture in which case the matter will be closed. One should feel happy for the owner if resolution has come about. Either way we will not know unless the original poster comes back expressing some grievous vexation.

I also talk to many other DP's and crew and have heard the same story.

I don't think BMD are as worried about bad press. They seem pretty OK with people posting almost anything on their own forum. And while we know that they have reputation perception issues with QC, there's only been one case I can think of where BMD went after anyone (for insider IP theft by their own employees)

I asked the same question a few days ago.

We'd all certainly like to know if BM stepped up and did the right thing.

Maybe they did but made the OP promise not to talk about it.

If you want autofocus then you have not researched your camera choice. You only got yourself to blame on that one.

I moved to one of the big 3.

Still shooting RAW across the board.

Only use my BM gear on specialty projects.

    BM images are sweet.

Too many other issues, missing pieces for me for now.

    Still interested in BM.

But the interest has moved way down the todem pole.

If BM could up their game in quality, reliability, autofocus, I'd move em back up the list again.
