  • Tilta Articulating Screen for P4K & P6K

Looks like Tilta is now providing a kit for users to install/modify an articulating screen for $329:

    https://www.newsshooter.com/2019/09/...e-bmpcc-6k-4k/

"The kit is user installed and doesn’t require you to make any permanent changes to the camera. You can easily put the screen back to its original configuration if you want to."

"Not only does the kit allow the screen to articulate Tilta has reversed the USB-C input so a M2 drive can be installed in the space where the monitor used to be."

Tempting but rather use $300 on other things and most likely voiding the warranty.

I saw a video of the modification process, requires removing the entire camera back, not a trivial task, and more of a camera tech mod, than a user mod. Also, the current mod blocks the USB-C connector (using it to feed the M2 SSD connection in the camera back), so my question is how are you gong to update the camera FW without taking the end plate back off to get at the USB-C connector? I do like the end plate mod with the individual port covers, looks cleaner and easier to use with a cage.

Another great idea, but not completely thought through. Anyone remember three Tilita BMD EVF mod kit? Started out as a “User Mod” then became a Mod done by Tilta only, and only a few were ever done...

Looks great to me: a $329 mod that sorts out the main two issues people have with this camera (fixed screen and expensive media).

Now that I'm lusting for the p6k+magicbooster and my p4k may find itself on ebay, I think I'd be getting two of these: one for the p6k if (when?) I finally buy it, and one for the p4k so I can install it before selling the camera (I think with this mod installed I'd kill most of the "used" tax).

That M2 mod is great! To hide the SSD away like that can only be a good thing out in the field. The tilting screen wouldn't hurt either I would think - may be quite useful.

So this mod along with the PL mount mod is changing the P6K into something else again. Interesting.

They say they're working in keeping an external USB-C port.

Yes, but that was a maybe, not a definite response in the interviews. But to make this truly workable, they are going to have to add the USB-C port back in. Let’s see what happens in November when it is due to be released.

A 1TB EVO M2 drive is $170, the Wise USB-C SSD 1TB is $280, so a $100 savings, if the camera will work with the M2 drives, like the Samsung EVO. We all know, not all drives are created equally.

It's only $100 if you're ok with having a USB-C cable hanging from your camera body and offering a very clear point of failure. I only shoot internal, and in that case it's $1100 (compared with four relatively cheap but BM-certified 256GB Transcend CFast cards).

Very nice, but why can't Blackmagic just build this for us. As for the drive interface, I assume it's just a USB-c male end to eliminate the cable, so if they don't bring back the external female port you would just need an adapter for firmware updates.

Yes, it is tempting, but we do not even know if the EVO M2 drives will work with the Pocket cameras, this needs to be tested also.

The Cinema 5d article indicated that this is the case, Tilta is bringing the product to market and sharing profits with the inventor.
