  • BMPCC 4k A cam, what's a decent B cam for cheap? GH4?

    Hey guys,

I use the the BMPCC 4k as an A Cam for a lot of work and I'm looking for a suitable B Cam that's pretty cheap. I shoot mostly weddings and other events these days for extra cash and need a good B Cam for speeches and ceremonies. It'll be a static wide. Thinking the GH4 might be a good fir but I've never used one.

Any suggestions for a low end B Cam?

    Thanks in advance!

    " I'm looking for a suitable B Cam that's pretty cheap" ...

Well. Why not get another Pocket 4K camera?
You can sell the "Davinci Resolve Studio" license if you donīt need it.
So the camera itself is just 1000 Bucks.

braw 12:1 with dual iso sensor where syou can change ISO afterwards
is 10 times better than any Gh4 (or whatever camera) only shooting log in mp4.

Realistically you're not selling the resolve license for full price, but you still can't find anything new that can compare for cheaper, just don't rig the second body and your good. Now if matching is not the issue there are a lot of options in the used market. Panasonic G7 was close to gh4 for half the price, you might find the original ZCam e1 for next to nothing. Personally I think original Pocket would give best chance at matching in most situations if there is enough light, but then there is the issue of compatible cards.

Honestly, get another P4k. I have the P4k and a Gh4 and the GH4 can look good on it's own, but it's so compressed that it looks super cheap, 8-bit-ish next the P4k it wouldn't not cut as great as you'd probably like.
Ursa 4.6k, Pocket Cinema 4k, BMCC, GoPro Hero4 Black, Mavic Air, Phantom 2, Canon T3i, Lots of glass.

Ditto on that. When I've had the luxury of both A and B cams being the same model it made everything so much easier.
And the P4k is so inexpensive and if you could stretch your budget for a second one. It's also a backup for the A cam and sort of becomes a B+ camera.

There's nothing comparable for less money. In fact, most of the offers for more money can't keep up image wise.

              Get another P4K.

The advantages of having multiples of the same camera CANNOT be overstated.
I'd definitely add more P4K's before any other camera under an UMP.
Cameras: Blackmagic Cinema Camera, Blackmagic Pocket Camera (x2), Panasonic GH2 (x2), Sony RX100 ii, Canon 6D, Canon T2i,
Mics: Sennheiser, AKG, Shure, Sanken, Audio-Technica, Audix
Lights: Every Chinese clone you can imagine

At least another Blackmagic Camera, if thereīs not enough budget for another Pocket 4K.
You can get the old 2.5k really cheap now and upscaling the Raw-Files in Resolve works great.

I had the GH4 a couple of years ago and although itīs a good camera by itself, it didnīt quite work when mixed with for example the BMCC.
The compression is one part of it, the other part is the colors.

So like most of the others already suggested: Get another Pocket 4k or if you need a budget-friendly second option: get a cheap BMCC or BMMCC.

Just get another BM Pocket 4K and it's going to be the cheaper solution near/long term due to less of the grief matching and other nuances that may affect your work and/or delivery.

You can get a used original pocket for a few hundred dollars. That's the only thing cheaper than the BMPCC4k that can really compare
