  • Controlling the BMPCC4K Remotely

Is there an iPhone, iPad, or Android App that connects with the BMPCC 4K via Bluetooth and let you control the camera remotely?

Yes, for iOS there is Bluetooth+
and for Android Marcus Wolschon has made an App:

Is the iOS app on the Apple store? I'm not finding it... what is it called?
      Thanks Robert for the link.

Is there any way do control it remotely without a phone?

(There needs to be, at the very least for Start/Stop recording.)

It will have to be done via Bluetooth, since the P4K lacks LANC. That will be most easily accomplished via a smartphone, though it's not required. You could use an old phone that doesn't even have a SIM card, so that it doesn't interfere with your using your phone as a phone. I was thinking of getting a refurbished iPhone SE just for this purpse. Back when iPhones were still small, plus it's updatable to the latest version of iOS.

It should also be possible through USB-C, though we don't know if you can still pass-through to record to an SSD at the same time.

I don't know that it will be possible to control the camera via USB-C; they've stated its intended purpose was for storage; you can't even do a video signal through the USB-C port, so I wouldn't bet on that unless someone from BMD specifically says so. Frankly, I think that was a missed opportunity (as was the 1080p limitation on the HDMI port). Ah well.

Dean added that to Bluetooth+ the other day, he posted on the Facebook groups:

Just released an update for Bluetooth+ with Follow Focus mode. You can pull focus from the app with supported focus-by-wire MFT lenses. Do have a read of the app store description for some more details and limitations

Edit: Also just realised you might have meant nothing on the market that isn't through a smart phone app, which there isn't yet.
