  • UMP on its side anyone? Crazy good footage!

This speaks volumes to more K's, as long as the pixels are allowed to stay large enough for good quality. 12K downsampled to 8K and 6K upsampled to 8K with youtube compression is easy to tell the difference.

Here's to the future BMD LF camera! And the world rejoiced...

I personally watched this on a 5K monitor at 8K. Mac guys just use the chrome browser.

I thought it was kind of a strange project (and it's the Panasonic EVA1, not UMP, btw) because, if you watch around the 9:00 mark, he's essentially just stitching some still frames into the project to bump up the total resolution. This thing would be completely worthless with motion throughout the frame or if one of the reels was too large to frame within the width of the sideways sensor. And really, is anyone surprised that the 12K image downscaled to 8K is more detailed and sharper than the 5.7K image?

I knew it was an EVA1. I was just playfully asking if anyone wanted to try their UMP. :P

It's just a running gag we have around here, we are constantly debating whether anything above 3K is even noticeable by the average consumer, especially if it's compressed. I always say, "yes of course" some say "No."

Imagine putting 12K worth of pixels on an alexa 65 sensor? 8)

The only conclusion i can imagine - don't use large format lenses on S35 frame until you want extra soft image or specific bokeh look. Downscale from large format compensates lens softness. That's why we see difference in sharpness.

Why not just build a good old fashioned cinerama rig if you want that much res.
