For the moment I set the safe area to 70% in 4k DCI and center crop in post. This matches the image circle of my 9.5mm (Zeiss Super Speed mkIII), which just barely covers s16. The 12/16 and 25 have a lot more coverage.

The worst part is trying to nail focus on that small marked off area, but you can punch in for critical focus.

It's not an ideal solution, but one advantage is having plenty of extra pixels to stabilize and reframe. So, it's a lot like working with Fincher's 6k for 4k workflow.

Being able to see what's just outside of frame is also nice (mic on a boom, lights etc.)

The 2K crop for the UMP and UM4.6K is 11.26x6.33mm, which is coincidentally the same dimensions as the Digital Bolex D16. Smaller than full aperture Super16 or Ultra16, but bigger than Regular16.

It absolutely can be done and can be done in two different ways. I think the reason that the Ursa Mini 4.6K doesn't have a Super16 mode is just because people haven't asked for it. The Pocket 4K is the successor to a camera that had a Super16 sized sensor, so people upgrading form the original are hoping to still be able to use the glass they invested in.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if the Ursa Mini Pro's 1080p or 2K 16:9 crops were a little closer to Super16mm than the Pocket 4K's 1080p crop.

It's extra gear but you should be able to set scaling/guides on most decent external monitors these days. Shouldn't really be an issue at this point...

I depends how addressable the sensor is, for me it's about saving data obviously, why have to deal with 4K data if using 2.5k or whatever it turns out to be. I would be happy if they pushed the crop mode to 2k dci which would make the width close to standard 16mm. I'm not blessed with super16 lenses, don't cover current pocket, but should be fine with the crop mode on the new one.

His only contributions to the Blackmagic Pocket 4K Facebook group has been posting this petition over and over again and, like I said in the previous post, he created the petition after employees from BMD already acknowledged directly to him that they know a bunch of people want the feature. Because of that, he's now so disliked in that group that the general response to the petition has become one where some people are trying to get claim the feature would be useless.

That doesn't mean I don't want the feature though. If they implemented it by cropping a 4K readout, then that would make shooting with Super16 lenses so much easier for people who had them, but if they do it at the sensor level then it would be useful for even more people because it could allow frame rates maybe as high as 90 frames per second without having to go to 1080p.

Anything else BMD does in camera is just a convenience, not a requirement.

I have a set of PL mount s16 primes sitting on a shelf waiting for this feature.

Circa 2.8k RAW in S16 mode would be perfect. Donít need 4K for everything. Most movies are shot at 2.8k with the Alexa anyways. Your aging actors will be greatfull...

In addition to the ability to use old c-mount lenses, the "Super 16" 2.8K mode will be good because such a resolution will be much easier for a computer to pull than 4K. And the quality will be noticeably higher than FHD with upload on YouTube because the video will receive more bitrate from YouTube and there will be no need to do upscale to 4K anymore.

That's the earliest it can be added and they certainly aren't going to announce it before the camera has a solid shipping date.

This whole petition thing is wasted effort.
