  • May be a stupid question... but cases?

Anyone heard of any case for the camera? I am getting it in July from creativevideo and I can't see any case options... other than waiting for the camera to be released and buying a Peli case and waiting for the foam to be cut to measure (which can take weeks) I see no other option... anyone else know of third parties making a case for the BMC?

Can't you DIY? I'm sure one will be made. You could always temporarily use a camera bag and just re arrange the inserts.

Yes something like a Thank Tank bag for a DSLR may be large enough. Their bags are heavy duty canvas with foam inserts to hold the DSLR, 70-200mm and more lenses. Check the dimensions:

Not heard much about the company though... not sure if it is legit.

Doesn't look strong enough. Just wait to find something that fits when you get the camera.

You can rip the foam yourself on a pelican case easy enough, with the foam that's those 'tabs' you rip out to the shape/design you need.

I will be using my pelican, I have the re-arrangable velcro system.

Ah, so you have a peli case without the foam but a velcro slot system? Is it secure? I have a cut to size Peli case for my FS100 and they are very sturdy, but I think I would want something lighter for the BMC... like the think tank stuff. My Sony EX3 sits in a soft case and its been banged about without incident, so was thinking of heading back to the soft case...

Yeah, I never find anything has moved around once I open my case. There is not as much padding as you get with foam.. but it is much easier to re-arrange with changing gear. (and cheaper too!)

Question: The BMD website says the dimensions of the BMCC are:

"166.2mm by 113.51mm x 126.49mm excluding detachable sunshade and turret dust cap"

Since they don't specify, is that the width, height, and depth (in that order)?

I plan on using my Petrol Red Bag for packing the cam with full support gear....otherwise, will be using my Sony soft case for regular stuff.

+1 for rolling velcro, im through with dividers and pluck foam.

i DIY'ed a rolling case and a backpack with the adjustable velcro pads and i couldn't be happier.

Ditto. Best carry on case ever.

Given that the BMC also doubles as a port hole to other dimensions it's hard to tell.

However I still fully expect to be able to lift out my GH1 out of it's compartment in my Cinebag CB-01 and stick down the BMC instead. The bag also holds 4 Canon FD primes, my rail rig, follow focus and matte box plus 4x4 filters and other accessories in the side pockets.
