Hi,

Do any of the DP's on here know if you can use Red PL glass on the BMCC? The 17-50mm zoom seems like a perfect fit for this camera. Would the same adapters work that people use for the Canon's like the KCW Technica? One more question, if this lens would work with the adapter do all of the focus marks change since its plugged into the adapter then the adapter to lens mount?

Thank you for your advice!

I also thought it would be perfect but I'm not sure if it can be. I'd like to be proven wrong however! $6K for a cinema lens that will fit most focal lengths.

There's a thread about this lens already :)
Apparently, many claim it's a rehoused DSLR lens (either from Tamron or Sigma)

HI,

Thank you for responding.
I have looked at that thread but it does not talk about whether or not you can use the RED 17-50mm PL Mount lens on the BMCC. I am planning to call Red and Blackmagic today to see if they can confirm.

I'm not sure either Red or Blackmagic will be able to help you on this one. Really, it sounds like a question for the people who make the EF to PL adapter. If the adapter is made properly and is good quality (and frankly, I don't know much about the different PL adapters for EF mounts, so I can't speak to that), you should be able to use the Red 17-50 just fine.

You do bring up a good point about focus, though. Does anyone know how backfocus adjustments on the BMC will work? If it's adjustable at all, that is.

EDIT: No clue about focus marks. I would guess there would be no change, but I can't say for sure.

Found this thread over at DVXuser about using PL adapters. Looks like there are problems with a number of lenses, particularly primes, related to the throat size of the mount. Not sure if the 17-50 will be affected by this.

The Red 17-50 does not fit EF to PL adapters. It shares the same issue that also prevents many primes from fitting said adapters - it's butt is too big.

Baby got back. That's unfortunate to hear.

...so who wants a Tamron 17-50 EF with a stoopid short focus throw? ;-)

Well or the RED 17-50mm available with interchangable mounts (like the Zeiss CP.2) instead of PL only :P

I wonder if the BMC will know the difference?
