View Full Version : Dots: New BMCC Handheld Test & Review

01-22-2013, 10:45 AM
Hey, everyone - I wanted to test out the handheld ability of the BMCC. I used a shoulder rig and a 35mm lens for most of it. I didn't find the rolling shutter/ jello / etc to be worse than the FS100. What do you think?

Here is my review (http://strappingproduction.com/sp/industry-talk/blackmagic-cinema-camera-review-aussome) of the camera. Thanks for watching and reading!

That's a pretty accurate representation... lol... run away at the first sign of danger and do not turn around.

Yep keep em coming, eventually it'll be more about the creative aspect as opposed to the pixel peeping ;)

Fun to watch :)

Haha, loved this! This shows that not having IS in your lens isn't a "deal breaker".

I LOLed at your film for real. I'm very glad to see people testing it by making something not just "shooting a test." Great work.

So you didn't use IS on this shoot -- just the shoulder rig?

I'm also the fs100 owner and I'm very interested to see a dynamic range comparition between fs100 and bmcc in some extreme situation (eg a person in front of a window), how much more you can pull out of a bmcc.
Could you make this?

Neither of the lenses he used have IS.

Eimulis, you can conduct the test yourself my friend! I downloaded FS100 footage and BMCC footage. BMCC blows FS100 away from my little tests.

Thanks everyone for watching!

Charlie - I indeed did not have IS.

eimulis - The BMCC does have much, much better highlight retention than the FS100, but I would be happy to do a quick test to analyze the difference. I'll try to do that soon!

hehe fun. I was totally expecting, based on the title, some sort of scene involving characters running away from the black dots caused by high exposed areas lol.
