I have a paid account but somehow they keep suspending my account for using more then the 200GB/day limits...how Ive no idea, but although I love dropbox when it works we need a solution thats affordable & fast for customers. Anyone have any good tips? There seems to be a sea of sites out there offering the same kind of thing but its tough to see which is best.

Average file size foir us will be about 4 - 16GB & we would want about 200GBs of space at least with no throttling or bandwidth caps

Google Drive just gave a unable to Sync error with a 750MB test video file, looks like they dont want video files either.

there are data-center/dedicated server providers that will let you rent out space/racks plus a dedicated internet connection for the server(s). imagine a computer(s) connected to a fast internet connection 24/7.

but if you already have a really fast internet connection, why not just ask for a static ip address from your ISP, and hook up a mac mini as your dedicated server. it would be much faster for you to transfer the files to the server. it will also allow for pause/resume function for the person downloading the files using download managers, http or ftp software.

Just be mindful that running your own server can often be against the TOS with your ISP. Doesn't stop some people that i know, but just be aware. :)

I use Amazon's Simple Storage Service (S3) for that sort of thing.

Cheers for that one, it looks ideal even though the instructions seem to make me feel like a 5year old that's learning to read....wow! Seems to be plenty of programs & help out there for it though "in plain English". After some searching I see the cost is about $0.15/GB to download which seems fair with no limits etc.

PS I actually touched a BMC today!

Might need to read the fine print but Godaddy is not a bad place to park files...

Personally I am not at all a fan of the cloud as it basically means you, your children, your children's children etc....will be paying monthly fees for the rest of time, or lose all of your data.

there are no unlimited web services, even if advertised as such. especially shared solutions. they will have a way to calculate hits per month or nodes or bandwidth usage, storage used, into what they think is a vps or dedicated server user, and if you hit the limit on anything, they strongly suggest or request that you level up to a more dedicated solution.
