View Full Version : Various tests over next few days

I've set up an Vimeo album showing various tests with the BMCC, mostly to do with keying, audio, moire and lens tests.

There'll be a bunch of them over the next few days.

https://vimeo.com/album/2142825

If anyone wants dngs let me know and I'll set up a google drive folder.

In the meantime I'm enjoying working out configurations for shooting...

1550

I'll be swapping out the Sachtler Ace head for a old Miller20 head - unfortunately the 4 kilo weight limit on the Ace is a problem. I'll use the Ace head on a slider once I build one...

UPDATE: I've just updated to Vimeo plus, so new videos should be at 1920x1080.

Thanks for your efforts! Do you know the weight of your rig in the picture including the camera? My head also has that 4Kg limit, but I won't be adding anything until I get the camera. I should have bought a heavier tripod/head but it was fine for my HV20!

Thanks Greg,
I'd definitely be wanting the dngs.

I'm currently waiting my BMCC, and been doing real-time keying (software I wrote in CUDA) for previz stuff from DVCProHD. Eager to try some BMCC footage.

Thanks again,
Jules

Can I suggest some bracket tests, my feeling is that 200-400 is gonna be cleanest if you dont need the headroom

It's about 6 kilos at the moment, sans the v-mount being attached. I can get it under the limit for certain shooting setups and for bigger rigging I'll grab a Miller 50 from work.

I did a bunch of latitude tests at 800ASA at various f stops, should have done the bracket at the same time - next time I take it into the studio I'll do the bracketing for you. Maybe next week.

I've created a shared google drive folder than I'll upload stuff to - let me know if you can't access.

I'm placing a zip of dngs shot at a bunch of f stops. Lens was a Tokina 20-35 f/2.8, Nikon to EF mount. I love this lens and suspect it'll be the one that's on the camera most of the time.

The subject was lit just from the lighting rig ie no floor lights were brought into the studio.

Are you using the HyperDeck just for SDI pass through or using as a ProRes recorder?

F2.8 is not even clipping :D Was that just under zebras?

Passthrough with this setup.

Ignored zebras, just shot at each f stop. Latitude, oh the latitude!

Just rendered another key test using a subject with long blonde hair.

I've thrown some dngs of the camera footage into the google folder for you to play with.

It would be nice to see it actually go over exposed. As above 2.8 didnt clip

Pretty much recoverable down to F8, great!

Brilliant stuff Greg,
I started a thread about green screen with BMCC over a month ago or so in the Blackmagic forum. There was some people saying that BMCC doesn't key well and not to get it etc.
I've put your links up in the same thread in case people picked up a misconception about BMCC and keying.

Thanks for the DNGs too.

Cheers,
Jules

No problem I'll check out the forum.

In the meantime I'm uploading 2 seconds of a dng sequence of the hair test (with a slightly wider framing) to the google folder.

I did something similar a few months ago. An exposure ramp.

Perhaps you missed it ?

Just did a Glidecam test with the kids down a moire infested alley.

Tokina 11-16 at 11. Variable ND. Auto colour in Resolve.

No moire in the 2.5K file, even if Vimeo's compression suggests otherwise.

Select DNGs in the Google folder.

That is actually a great looking image, Greg. How dark was that alley way? because the ground was visible and the sky looked incredible.

Ta Liam.

Pretty harsh shadows - just your standard high contrast mid afternoon Sydney sunlight.

Lots of detail in the surfaces that normally shimmer on DSLRs.
