View Full Version : Watch : The Survivalist - Alexa and BMCC

I recently watched this interesting film that explores a relevant theme. The pacing, mood, images, and sparse dialogue is just right for the story. The way the lead goes about his daily existence reminded me a bit of Robert Bresson's "A man escaped."

According to the DP, the film had to be shot with available light and practicals. It takes place in a small cabin, in a post-over consumption oil-less future. Shot on the Arri Alexa Plus and BMCC 2.5K. They cut together really well, but this is prob old news to some of you.

An interview about the making of it : http://www.televisual.com/blog-detail/Behind-the-scenes-shooting-The-Survivalist_bid-855.html

Anyone else catch this?

Quote from the article you linked to:

“The Blackmagic Cinema Camera performed surprisingly well, although I never used it as a B-Camera against the Alexa, that would have been an unfair competition, and would have stood out in the edit.”

Interesting that they say this. A good colorist should be able to match the two so it doesn't stand out.

Don't you think this could be based on assumptions rather than actually testing it and seeing how it looks?
I see C300/500 b-cameras with the Alexa quite often, If you can match that, then I'm sure the colorist will be able to match the BMCC footage with ease as well.
