Wow! Definitely one of the best pieces of footage from the BMC that I've seen so far. Your camera is ready to shoot a film :)

Bellissimo! Filippo, are you a BMC distributor or just a final user? Where did you buy it from?
Grazie!

Very nice. Best example of the BMC I've seen to date. Super detailed and clean with great DR. I think the camera enjoys you, Filippo.

Filippo, are you a BMC distributor or just a final user?
Filippo is a master shooter, I've had the pleasure of meeting him and he frequently gets early looks at cameras and usually does absolutely stellar work with them.

This looks like a camera making images. Not a colour photo copier.

Nice one.

Wow Filippo, you know what you are doing behind the camera! I would gladly hand the the reigns over to you on any shoot I was on. Much respect, and would love to hear anything you have to say about cinematography in general.

Great images, congrats.
Just a question, I can see some aliasing on the accordionist vest, on the wrists. Is that on the original file as well or is just Vimeo?
Beautiful images again Filipo, lucky sir indeed.

Hi Did you apply a mask in post to create the anamorphic look? Do you mind explaining how you did it. Thanks

Wow, the resolution and dynamic range is just amazing! Truly cinematic! I can't believe a sub 3k camera can provide such image quality. It's really revolutionary. If the DSLR movement was a puedo revolution in achieving film quality for the common man, the BMCC is a true revolution.

Astonishing! Really really great looking!
The highlights are graded a little too dark for my taste (85 IRE max?) but thatīs an artistic decision.

Amazing footage. Thanks for posting!

In the first sequence of the accordion the highlights definately have some purple fringing. Do people think this is likely to be due to camera or lens?

morgan_moore
10-25-2012, 06:13 AM
I have a 50 1.2 nikon, it most certainly has a certain mild purple halo/smear wide open - I think it is a mix of sensor and lens

you can see the lens halo, (smearing at 1:06)

and also some (bike OOF higlights 1:04) stuff that I would think is the sensor

Id say at 1.15 he has changed lens and the smearing is gone and the accordian looks awesome but close to hitting moiree in the bellows

With the 5d2 you can see that lens abberation ONLY in preview focus check mode, not on the footage at all because it is so soft!

With regards to lens aberration usually Canon and Nikon DSLR cameras corrects some but when putting still lenses on a well resolved video camera that lacks this correction I bet we'll see more lens flaws over time.

I threw this on a small 3x3 screen tonight, the shot of the red-haired girl, the shot of them all on the steps and the shot of the 2 ladies in the street, holy cow, dynamic range coming out the wazoo. This is the reason I bought this camera. On paper this thing is getting sold short, it's like film, it has character.

Steve Madsen

Ridiculous that a $3k camera and $600 zoom lens can look this good.

Skin tones are still my favorite part of this camera. As you put it, Liam, "it has character."

Apparently the new Sony F camera is going to shake things up.

#TheNewF announcement will be very tough for some big players in the industry! I was so surprised yesterday!

Whatever happens with the Sony, it's about time this started to happen.

The rumors are more like $ 15K+ for the camera and normal 1080p output and a firmware upgrade plus external recorder for 4k. So I think the price will be far from the $ 3000 BMC even if it might come with a lot functionality built in. Will just have to wait less than a week to see.

Guys, thanks for all your comments, I appreciate them greatly.
IMHO, the BMCC is the best "boy" for the price.
I use a lot of cameras, but when I saw the RAW footage in Camera RAW, it blew me up.
The BMCC is not perfect: bad ergonomics, the LCD is not so good in sun light, the battery life is too short, no phantom power for mics, no HDMI output, etc.
But, let me know where you can find a 3000 $ camera (+Da Vinci Resolve) made of solid aluminium with RAW/Pro Res/DNxHD recording, a simple menu and a very nice design.
The RAW will be the future.
I can't wait to see the RAW footage from the new cameras like the FS700 when 12 bit RAW 4K output will be ready.

xD I know what's true and what's not in the rumors.

Can definitely say that I must get my hands on it as soon as possible, and that's never been the case with a Sony camera for me. I did get to play with an FS700 super early... though

Felix

LoL, they seem to really try charging 19 000 $ for the RAW recorder.
Thatīs quite an "accessorie" for my FS700!

I doubt the NewF will be priced to have any real impact on the BMCC but what Im guessing it WILL do is crush canons 'cinema' offerings with a single stroke. About time somebody gave that arrogant company a wake up ass whopping.

For sure, at this time, no new RAW recording cameras around BMCC's price.
So, if you need a camera with RAW on-board for 3000 $, the BMCC is the only one.

This is all I really hope for. Even if I can't afford it right now. But honestly, I'm not getting too excited about this announcement. I can get a BMCC for RAW and a GH3 for 60fps over-cranking... for under $5k. That's still less than ONE C100. Not bad at all. So unless Sony is offering a FF35 RAW-hybrid camera with 120fps, in a Red Scarlet-sized box, for $5,000... there's really nothing they can do to get my interest.
