the footage is excellent. especially from the 16 minute marker until about 18 minutes. The footage holds up really well. I would be interested to see how far one can push the darker portions of the scene with the Prores codec.

Really nice footage. What kind of lens did you use on that?

OMG really nice, two questions why 29,97p? and what iso did you use?

Thanks for the sharing

Hey Dan, could you upload it to vimeo as well?
Great stuff by the way!

Like Kholi would say: " Not a low light camera my heinie"

Dan, any chance to get it on vimeo so we can download the original file?

Or better yet, would love to try and grade it myself and see how far I could push it, any chance you could upload the original prores file?

Thanks guys. The original Prores file is like 42GB...

The graded one actually was recompressed in mpegstreamclip to mP4 with a 2 pass encode, 100 percent quality, 10mbps cap, B frames on.

That's what you see on the tube.

Let me see about trimming a 2 minute chunk of the original and uploading it.

One problem is that this is from a yet to be released fashion commercial so I don't want to go Vimeo styles yet.

Shot with a 24mm rokinon and a "mystery filter"

We were sort of emulating the "casino" shot on a lower budget.

Why shot at. 29.97? I wanted the shot at 20% slowmo.

Mystery filter, are you allowed to say whether it was optical or post/digital?

Optical glass :)

The 24mm Rokinon is kind of one of my favorite lenses.

Period.

If they do an 18mm 1.8 or 2.0 that covers s35 I'm down, and a 50mm 1.4 would be great too.

I have a feeling it's hard to make an innovative 50mm these days, also it probably has something to do with their strategy.

Good job, man. You're the first person to bring me out of 'lurking' mode on this board.

Thanks for sharing. It's great to see another example of the BMCC's ProRes footage. Very interesting.

Does no one else think this is way underexposed? Like 2-3 stops?

Just saying I would have preferred a hood mounted light or something to keep some light on the girls' faces.

Hi Joe,

The beginning is "unlit" because they are not "in Light"

Nothing is worse than fake ass looking lighting to me.

Also, because this was done without permits we couldn't mount a light to the hood, but even if we could I would not have put the light on the hood.

Not offended, but I wanted to show what an underexposed shot looked like for the first part, and an "exposed" part when they are in the lights.

Just giving you guys some meat to dig into criticism wise, and I am glad you thought it was dark.

Ungraded, Trimmed Prores (FILM) file is up on the blog. Warning...roughly 8GB of download.

Thanks Dan for the download. I was even impressed with the quality of the youtube video you posted. Despite the darkness it was way less noisy than I expected given that the BMCC isn't a high ISO camera.

This is SUPER nice of you to upload a section of the original pro-res file. First one (although I haven't been looking hard) to do this. I wish I could get a bit of RAW footage with this same length.

I will be doing my own grade on this material and posting (for private viewing on vimeo) to this forum. Thanks again for the footage! (a few more hours to go downloading this original file though!)
